What is the NanoBanana neural network, what functions does it offer, and why are there so many fake copies on the network?
In recent days, the Internet has been actively discussing a “neural network” called NanoBanana. In fact, this is not an independent project, but a new name for the updated Google Gemini tool – Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (its unofficial nickname is “Nano-Banana”).
Google has introduced a model for creating and editing DeepMind images under this code name: it can “combine multiple images into one”, “preserve the image’s appearance unchanged” and precisely change parts of a photo based on text prompts. Simply put, NanoBanana is Google’s new powerful “AI-powered Photoshop”, built into the Gemini chatbot.
Many social networks and blogs have drawn attention to it after a closed test (users were talking about the “banana” tags in the examples), but officially it is part of Gemini 2.5 Flash Image.
The original model is already available through Google Gemini (in the Gemini application and Google AI Studio). The model was announced on August 26, 2025, and provides free access to new photo editing tools.
However, due to the hype, many fake websites and apps have appeared under the name NanoBanana. None of them are affiliated with Google and are most often scams or advertising services.
The only official way to “try NanoBanana” is to visit Google Gemini (Gemini’s official website and app).
Key features of NanoBanana
1. Appearance preservation
The model can change clothing, background, pose, and other elements in a photo without distorting the face and features of a person (or animal). Lifehacker notes that during editing, the neural network “accurately follows the prompts, preserving the details and appearance of the characters.” That is, you can “dress up” yourself in a matador costume or a vintage 60s hairstyle and at the same time remain yourself in the photo.
2. Blending multiple photos
NanoBanana can simultaneously combine several source images into one picture. Google emphasizes that the model can “merge multiple images into one.” For example, you can take the background of a room, a portrait, and any other object and get one realistic photo from it.
3. Local editing via text
According to clear text commands, the neural network removes or changes individual details: blurs the background, removes people from the frame, recolors objects, changes their position, etc. DeepMind writes that the model provides “powerful control” over the image. it easily “replaces the background, restores faded photos, and changes the characters’ clothes” at your request. The result is realistic and neat, no need to manually use Photoshop.
4. Image Blending
NanoBanana can blend several images. On the left you can see three original elements: the background (metro escalator), a girl’s portrait, and an image of a phone, and on the right is the final image, where the neural network organically combined them into one scene. At the same time, all the details are preserved and look realistic.
5. Character Preservation
NanoBanana preserves the character’s identity with various modifications. In the example below, the same girl is depicted on different cards in different roles (chess player, racer, archer, etc.), but her face remains recognizable. The model accurately “preserves the unique features of the appearance,” as the authors promise.
6. Improve original photos
NanoBanana allows you to improve the details and resolution of photos. On the left is the original photo of the astronaut (with a helmet). On the right is the result of the model’s work: the face is depicted larger and sharper. The model added realistic details and brightness, while preserving the texture of the skin and atmosphere. DeepMind emphasizes that it is now possible to “restore worn photos” and “remove the helmet” while preserving the character’s features.
In addition, Google notes that NanoBanana works quickly and responds “within seconds” (at least, noticeably faster than many competitors). Thanks to this and its features, it quickly attracted the attention of users. Video reviews appeared on YouTube and TikTok: bloggers show how NanoBanana creates dozens of realistic versions with different backgrounds and styles using a single photo.
People on the Internet say that it “kills Photoshop”: image editing is so simple and powerful.
Official login and fake services
So, NanoBanana is an official development of Google. It is built into their Gemini services: Gemini chatbot and Google AI Studio interface. The function became available to all Gemini users, while nanobanana.ai, nanobanana.net and other similar sites are unofficial. They have nothing to do with Google and are often just trying to make money off of the hype (use them at your own risk).
Just remember: the original is on Gemini from Google, and all the “NanoBanana fast downloads” on the internet are fake or questionable sites.
